Why So Many First Responders Are Choosing Vermont

Find a Community That Feels Like Home

Vermont is known for its small towns and close-knit communities, but there are also regional centers such as Burlington, Montpelier, and Rutland that provide access to healthcare, shopping, dining, and everyday services.

For retirees and those planning to settle permanently, choosing the right community is about finding the balance between peace and practicality. Family proximity
Four Seasons, One Comfortable Rhythm

Vermont gives you a true four-season lifestyle. Spring and summer open the door to hiking, boating, fishing, gardening, golfing, and exploring the countryside, while fall brings the spectacular foliage the state is known for.

Winter transforms the landscape into a destination for skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and cozy days at home. For retirees who enjoy variety but don't want a hectic lifestyle, each season brings a new way to spend your time.
Stay Connected After a Career of Service

Leaving a career in the military, emergency services, law enforcement, or healthcare can mean losing the everyday camaraderie that came with serving alongside others. Finding a community where you can build new relationships can make a big difference.

Think About Your Long-Term Home

A permanent relocation should be based on more than beautiful scenery. Healthcare access, proximity to family, housing, transportation, shopping, recreation, and community services become increasingly important when you're planning to stay somewhere for years.

Vermont's regional centers can provide access to important healthcare and everyday amenities, while smaller communities can offer the peace, space, and slower pace many retirees are looking

Charlie Younkin

For more than 30 years, I have been actively involved in investing in, renovating, and facilitating the purchase of residential and commercial real estate throughout Michigan and Florida. In addition to my real estate work, I manage From the Badge to the Beach, a referral-based relocation program designed to help individuals identify and transition into ideal retirement and lifestyle destinations.

Before entering real estate full time, I served for 28 years as a police officer. That experience instilled in me the importance of integrity, accountability, and trust, principles that continue to guide how I work with clients today. Since retiring in 2022, I have focused exclusively on helping buyers and sellers navigate the real estate process with clarity and confidence.

With hands-on experience in both Michigan and Florida markets, I provide clients with valuable insight into regional trends, investment opportunities, and strategic property selection. My approach combines market knowledge with innovative search strategies and creative solutions to ensure each client is presented with options that align with their goals.

I live in Livingston County and raised my family in Wayne and Macomb counties, giving me a strong connection to the communities I serve. Beyond real estate, I am deeply committed to supporting the mental health and wellness of first responders, frontline workers, and military personnel through my foundation, Lines of Heroes, which provides resources and support to those who serve our communities and our country.
