Why So Many First Responders Are Choosing Utah

Retirement Can Still Be Active

For many veterans and retired first responders, retirement doesn't mean sitting still.

Utah provides plenty of ways to stay engaged, from hiking and golf to fishing, skiing, cycling, camping, and exploring the state's scenic areas. You can spend a weekday morning on a trail, take a weekend road trip, or simply enjoy being outside without having to plan your life around a work schedule.

After years of serving others, having the freedom to decide what you want to do with an ordinary day can be one of the best parts of retirement.
Community After a Career of Service

Leaving the job doesn't mean leaving behind the people and values that shaped you.

Utah has veterans, firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS professionals, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare workers throughout its communities. Local organizations, veteran groups, volunteer opportunities, outdoor clubs, and community events can provide ways to stay connected and involved.

For those who have spent their careers helping others, finding a community where service is respected can make a new place feel much more like home.
Think About Healthcare Before You Think About the View

A beautiful setting is important, but settling somewhere for good requires a practical plan.

Retirees and those planning a permanent move should consider access to hospitals, specialists, pharmacies, transportation, shopping, and other services they may rely on over time. Utah's larger population centers provide access to major healthcare and everyday amenities, while surrounding communities can offer a quieter lifestyle.

More Time for the People Who Matter

A demanding career can make family time difficult to protect.Your next chapter can change that.

Maybe you want to be closer to your children or grandchildren. Maybe you want to travel more, spend weekends outdoors, work on projects around the house, or simply have more mornings where you aren't rushing somewhere.

Wherever you settle in Utah, the goal should be the same: creating a home and routine that give you more time for the people and experiences you've w

Charlie Younkin

For more than 30 years, I have been actively involved in investing in, renovating, and facilitating the purchase of residential and commercial real estate throughout Michigan and Florida. In addition to my real estate work, I manage From the Badge to the Beach, a referral-based relocation program designed to help individuals identify and transition into ideal retirement and lifestyle destinations.

Before entering real estate full time, I served for 28 years as a police officer. That experience instilled in me the importance of integrity, accountability, and trust, principles that continue to guide how I work with clients today. Since retiring in 2022, I have focused exclusively on helping buyers and sellers navigate the real estate process with clarity and confidence.

With hands-on experience in both Michigan and Florida markets, I provide clients with valuable insight into regional trends, investment opportunities, and strategic property selection. My approach combines market knowledge with innovative search strategies and creative solutions to ensure each client is presented with options that align with their goals.

I live in Livingston County and raised my family in Wayne and Macomb counties, giving me a strong connection to the communities I serve. Beyond real estate, I am deeply committed to supporting the mental health and wellness of first responders, frontline workers, and military personnel through my foundation, Lines of Heroes, which provides resources and support to those who serve our communities and our country.
