Why So Many First Responders Are Choosing Florida

A Lifestyle That Feels Like a Permanent Vacation

Florida is more than just a popular vacation destination. For many who relocate here, it becomes a place where everyday life feels a little lighter.
Imagine starting your mornings with sunshine, spending weekends near the water, and enjoying outdoor activities year-round. Whether you prefer the Gulf Coast, the Atlantic Coast, a vibrant city, or a quiet coastal town, Florida offers a lifestyle that many people spend years dreaming about.
Warm Weather All Year Long

One of the biggest reasons people move to Florida is simple: they are tired of winter.
Florida's warm climate allows residents to enjoy the outdoors throughout the year. Instead of shoveling snow, many Floridians spend their time walking on the beach, boating with friends, golfing, fishing, or simply enjoying the sunshine from their backyard.
For many first responders, leaving behind harsh winters feels like a well-deserved reward after years of service.
Endless Opportunities for Recreation

Life in Florida is built around the outdoors. With thousands of miles of coastline, countless lakes and waterways, beautiful parks, and world-renowned golf courses, there is always something to do.
Whether you enjoy fishing at sunrise, boating on the Gulf, exploring nature preserves, watching wildlife, or simply relaxing by the water, Florida offers opportunities to stay active and engaged in every season.
A Popular Destination for Veterans and First Responders

Florida has long been a destination for military veterans, retired law enforcement officers, firefighters, healthcare workers, and public servants from across the country.

Many people find comfort in knowing they are joining communities where service, sacrifice, and dedication are respected and appreciated. It's one of the reasons so many first responders feel at home here almost immediately.

Charlie Younkin

For more than 30 years, I have been actively involved in investing in, renovating, and facilitating the purchase of residential and commercial real estate throughout Michigan and Florida. In addition to my real estate work, I manage From the Badge to the Beach, a referral-based relocation program designed to help individuals identify and transition into ideal retirement and lifestyle destinations.

Before entering real estate full time, I served for 28 years as a police officer. That experience instilled in me the importance of integrity, accountability, and trust, principles that continue to guide how I work with clients today. Since retiring in 2022, I have focused exclusively on helping buyers and sellers navigate the real estate process with clarity and confidence.

With hands-on experience in both Michigan and Florida markets, I provide clients with valuable insight into regional trends, investment opportunities, and strategic property selection. My approach combines market knowledge with innovative search strategies and creative solutions to ensure each client is presented with options that align with their goals.

I live in Livingston County and raised my family in Wayne and Macomb counties, giving me a strong connection to the communities I serve. Beyond real estate, I am deeply committed to supporting the mental health and wellness of first responders, frontline workers, and military personnel through my foundation, Lines of Heroes, which provides resources and support to those who serve our communities and our country.
